Jim McSpadden was honoured this week by the Galway Football Association for his services to football in Galway.

A founder member of Salthill Devon, Jim’s contribution to the club and the soccer community in Galway has been enormous for over forty years.

Never a man to stand in the background when work was required;

His impact on the formative stage of the club has been significant and the subsequent emergence of events like the Fives, and our entry into the CSL, coupled with the development of our underage structure and the drive to purchase our first home in Millars Lane were pivotal in our development.

He has remained a strong figurehead within the club and he represented the club and the league in the wider football community, in his roles in Galway United and the Galway League

From a Salthill Devon perspective, Jim has been at the heart of everything we have done since 1977 and before that with Salthill Athletic. The National Fives, the Devon Park Clubhouse, Millers Lane, Drom, Connacht Senior League, League of Ireland are just a few of the elements that Jim has positively influenced while much of his work has been ‘under the hood’

Providing good council, energy and passion are Jim’s hallmarks; his ability to build relationships within the club and in football generally, and his willingness to serve.

It is these attributes coupled with his winning personality, steely determination and clarity of thought that make this award well earned and thoroughly deserved.
