Last Saturday (3rd Nov) the U14A lads had a good away win in Athenry on a very soft pitch following early morning rain. Thankfully prior to kick-off the skies cleared sufficiently to allow some good football to be played. By half time he Devon lads were two up. Piotrek Szymanski continued his good run of goals with the first, a good header from a Daniel Hoare delivery. The second a near post conversion by Charlie Quinn after an equally good delivery by Pierce Greally. The second half was a tighter game and the Athenry lads did their best to get back in the game and were rewarded with a soft penalty which they converted to bring the game back to 2:1. Despite this blip the Devon continued to play nice football and took control of the game. Ten minutes from time Darren Darcy finished off a fine move following another assist from Daniel Hoare. The game finished with a 3:1 away win.

Other notable performances on the day were Pierce Greally, Eric Diarra, Cillian Griffin and a man of the match performance from Robert Madden.

This win follows up their first league match (13thOct) at home against Oranmore which ended in a one all draw. Scorer in this match for Devon was a fine edge of box shot by Jamie Greaney following an assist from Darren Darcy.

Next Saturday @ 2pm the U14 lads welcome Westport Utd to Drom in the 4th round of SFAI Sketchers Cup. The reward for the winners is a place in the last 32 of the country. The team are putting out an special open invitation for all the support they can muster for this massive game…..to all parents, other family members, friends, Club coaches, Club officials we would love to see you up in Drom to cheer the lads on. Come on the Devon!!!
