Following on from the U12 Devon premier League and cup double the U14 Salthill girls win the Premier league.

It was always going to be an evenly fought match and to the neutral observer goals were guaranteed with both teams possessing good strikers. Mervue took the lead early in the first half and held until half time. A determined Devon continued to press in the second half and were rewarded when the central defender Anna Costello hit a power shot into the top right from a great corner by Kate Thompson. The score remained 1-1 at full time, with both sides having chances.

A tension filled first half extra time again saw both sides play attacking football, still the sides were even with the Devon Keeper Caoimhe O’Sullivan making a great 1v1 save and played well throughout the game. The deadlock was broke with 5 mins to go in the second half of extra time with Emily Fitzgerald’s 25 yard screamer doubling on a pass from Kate Thompson. Advantage Devon. Devon continued to dominate the last 5 mins of the game and in the final min Alex Shepard got a deserving goal having battled hard.

90 mins of football saw the two sides exhausted. On the day the Salthill defence of Caoimhe O’Sullivan (GK) , Elenaor Hernon, Anna Costello, Aine Deane and the tough tackling Ailish McDonnell held a great line. Ivana Lally and Aoibhin McDonnell (Capt) worked tirelessly in midfield against an equally strong Mervue. The wings were dominated by Kate Thompson and Emma Post. The strikers on the day Saoirse Burke, Alex Shepard, Mary Rooney and Emily Fitzgerald were a threat from the start and will always deliver goals. Our best wishes to Caoimhe NicAoda and Maria Costello who were out injured but help the squad with great performances over the season.

Well Done to Mark Hangerer (Manager) , Pat Lawless and Shane Fitzgerald for a good season so far.

The U14s play Knocknacarra on Weds 30th in the Premier league cup Semi-final as they push for the double.
