Juniors

Marek Krynicki’s Juniors have all but guaranteed their survival in the Western Hygiene Supplies Premier league following an impressive end of season form which saw achieve draws at home to Maree/Oranmore and Athenry followed by successive away victories over West Utd and Galway Hibs. They require just a single point from their remaining 2 league fixtures to guarantee premier league football for next season. They are also in contention for the Michael Byrne Cup as they have a quarter-final tie against St Bernards next Wednesday.

U16s

Mark Brady and Bogdan Matei’s all-conquering U16s secured their 3rd trophy of the season so far as they were emphatic victors over a gallant Moyne Villa 4-0 in the Galway Cup final played at Eamonn Deacy park last Monday evening. This fantastic group now play Mayo side, Manulla FC, in the SFAI Regional Final in Westport this Saturday and will hope to add another trophy to their impressive haul. They were already crowned league champions and completed the league campaign undefeated as they overcame 3-1 Renmore last week.

U16 Championship Cup

Nigel Diskin’s U16 Championship team have qualified for the final of the Championship Cup and await the winners of the 2nd semi-final between Mervue Utd and West Coast Utd.

U15s Premier (2nd place)

Rory Ginty and John Brennan’s U15s have recovered from a mid-season slump to finish the term strongly and have secured 2nd place in the Premier League following strong performances in 3 successive league victories where they defeated Maree/Oranmore (4-1), Kilshanvey Utd (2-1) and Bearna Na Forbeacha (6-1).

U14s

Donnacha Martyn and Martin Taylor’s U14 Premeir team lost out to Galway Hibs narrowly (2-1) before they played out an entertaining 3-3 draw with Athenry.

U14 Div 1

Enda Cullen, James Whelan and Shane O Grady’s U14 Division 1 team continue to emphasise their remarkable enhancement as they followed up a 2-2 draw with neighbours Knocknacarra by defeating a strong St Bernards team 2-1.

U13 Premier (2nd place)

In the absence of team manager, Mike Murray, Greg Quinn and Ultan O Sullivan oversaw an impressive win for the 13 Premier league team as they once again displayed great footballing prowess to defeat Colga 5-2 in their penultimate game of the season. Despite a number of absentees, the squad demonstrated their strength in depth as they ran out worthy winners courtesy of goals from Darren Darcy (3), Sean O Connor and Sean Orguba. This result sees them undefeated during 2018 and gave them their tenth win of the season. Their final game has been rescheduled for Monday evening 28th May which is away to Mervue Utd, the U13A league champions and recent runners up in the U13 SFAI Skechers National Cup. This promises to be an exciting local derby as these two teams have been the stand out squads in the local Galway league.

U12s

Mike Murphy and Robbie Webster’s U12 Division 1 squad were another Devon team to demonstrate noticeable improvements as they followed up a 1-1 draw with Merlin Woods by defeating Kinnvara (6-1) and Kilshanvey Utd (2-1) while Conor Byrne’s Division 2 squad, already crowned league champions, ensured they remained undefeated over the course of the campaign as they scored an impressive 7-0 victory away to a gallant Athenry. Brian O Donnell’s U12 Divison 5 squad also performed heroically as their extraordinary end of season form ensured they finished the season in 4th place.

Girls

Not to be outdone by the boys on the end of season honours list the Girls section of the club have secured a number of trophies to date while many more remain in contention for league and cup honours. Shane Fitzgerld’s U12 As secured the league title with 2 games 2 spare by winning all their games to date while they achieved the much coveted ‘double’ as they defeated neighours, Knocknacarra, in a sun drenched Eamonn Deacy Park in the final of the Galway Cup on Wednesday. A hat trick from goal machine, Emily Fitzgerlad, saw the Devonettes to victory in a strong all round team performance against a gallant Knocknacarra. Steve Stone’s U12 Bs gave an indication of the strength in depth at this age group as they also won their league in impressive fashion.

Pat Lawless’s U14s play rivals Mervue Utd in an eagerly awaited league final while they also play Knocknacarra in the semi-final of the Galway Cup as they bid to emulate their U12 counterparts.

Pat Lawless’s U16s performed superbly throughout the season and finished a successful campaign as league runners up to demonstrate the quality throughout the club.

Awards Night

The season will come to a climax for most, if not all of the club’s teams and huge thanks goes to all the clubs’ dedicated team of coaches, parents and of course the outstanding players. The annual awards night takes place in the Galway Bay Hotel tomorrow, Saturday and promises to be another wonderful occasion in the club’s calendar.
