Salthill Devon Juniors secured a valuable point away to title chasing Mervue Utd to enhance their prospects of survival in the Western Hygiene Supplies Premier League. The tie finished 1-1 with Mervue scoring a late equaliser to deny Marek Krynicki’s team the 3 points.

Matthew Sutton’s Youth team scored a fantastic 3-2 victory away to Maree/Oranmore to advance to the semi-final of the prestigious Jimmy Sullivan Cup.

The U16s followed up their 5-0 demolition of Bearna Na Forbeacha with a 1-1 draw away to fellow title contenders, Colga FC. Mark Brady and Bogdan Matei’s charges were behind for most of the game but scored a deserving late equaliser against their nearest rivals. They require just 1 point from their 2 remaining fixtures to guarantee them the title. The will hope to achieve that tonight (Friday) as they host Mervue Utd in Drom. Nigel Diskin’s U16 Championship team drew 1-1 away to Kiltullagh.

Rory Ginty’s U15s returned to winning ways with a deserving 3-1 win away to Bearna. They return to the top of the league table having played more games than their nearest rivals.

Mike Murray and Greg Quinn’s U13s recorded an impressive 4-2 win over Knocknacarra FC following a solid performance in their local derby match. After an early Knocknacarra goal Piotrek Syzmanska scored with a strong header from just inside penalty box following an excellent delivery from Sean O Connor. Darren Darcy (2) and Dylan Devine completed the scoring in a match that was exciting throughout and played in good spirits.

Mike Murphy’s U12 Division 1 team went down 1-0 away to Kilshanvey Utd and Brian O Donnell and Brian McNeill’s U12 Division 5 team were defeated 3-1 by Cregmore/Claregalway in an entertaining game in Drom. Conor Byrne’s U11s, playing as the U12 Cs in Division 2 returned to the top of the table following a 3-0 win away to Tuam Celtic. James Morahan (2) and Thomas Burke were the goalscorers as they remain unbeaten after 13 games. They have 2 big games coming up as they firstly travel to Maree/Oranmore before a potential title decider away to Loughrea on Sunday. They will be hoping that one of their star performers, Tommy Lillis, recovers from injury in time to line out with his teammates for the big game.

Pat Lawless’s U16 Girls recorded a courageous 2-1 win away to Corrib Rangers to push them into 2nd place in the league and within touching distance of leaders Cregmore/Claregalway. Pat Lawless and Shane Fitzgerald’s U14 girls had a superb 2-1 win against Cregmore/Claregalway and remain unbeaten in the league. Salthill were 1 down at half time after conceding a penalty.  The girls, however, came out fighting in the 2nd half and 2 goals from Saoirse Burke turned the game in their favour in a fantastic 2nd half performance from the whole team.

The U11 and U10 Development league continued while the U7s welcomed Galway Hibernians to Drom for a very enjoyable blitz. This weekend the U8s, U9s and U10s travel to Manulla in Co Mayo as they pit themselves against Connacht’s finest in what is sure to be a memorable occasion.
