It was another good week for Salthill Devon teams as Mark Brady’s U16s trail blazers continued their all-out assault on local and national competitions as they overcame Renmore in a tightly fought contest to return to the top of the league.

The result of the weekend, however, goes to the U14 Division 1 team who defied their lowly position to beat leaders Ramblers 2-1 away from home. The management trio of Shane O Grady, Enda Cullen and James Whelan, who are long serving players and volunteers with the club, have managed to transfer their expertise onto these young warriors. Having gone a goal behind the Seagulls bounced back to score twice in a pulsating game and in the process were the first team to beat this opposition domestically in 3 years.

Kenny Gavin’s U15s, despite losing the services of 4 of their star players to Galway Utd, fought bravely in the SFAI Regional semi-final only to lose 2-1 to Manorhamiliton Rangers of the Sligo/Leitrim league. Salthill Devon would like to wish the players who have signed for Galway Utd the very best in their future careers as they join a long list of Salthill Devon alumni to play at the highest level nationally.

Donnacha Martyn’s U14s reversed a recent defeat to Bearna as they recorded a 1-0 victory through a stunning Mathew Thompson header.

All U12 boys were in action as the Premier and Division 1 teams suffered defeats to Colga and Mervue respectively while the Division 2 and 5 teams recorded a win and draw away to their Cregmore/Claregalway counterparts to maintain their impressive form to date.

The U16s girls were given a walkover as Kiltullagh were unable to fulfil their league fixture while the U14s and U12s were victorious in all their games in a fantastic weekend for the girls.

The U14 and U12 Premier teams recorded high margin victories over Bearna and Cregmore/Claregalway and consolidated their positions at the top of their leagues while the U12 Division 1 team overcame Knocknacarra 3-0 in a terrific performance to climb to 2nd in the table.

Voices for Down Syndrome Galway

The Salthill Devon coaches, past players and supporters raised €1,000 for Voices for Down Syndrome Galway over the Christmas holiday period with a series of Charity matches and kick-arounds in Drom on December 26, 27 & 28. Conor Byrne and Shane Cox presented the proceeds to Eoin McCormack, representing Voices for Down Syndrome Galway in Drom recently.
