Salthill Devon 6 vs 4 West coast Utd

Devon went a goal down after 5 mins but equalized 5 mins later. Then went 2-1 up followed by 3-1 up. West Coast scored the next, leaving it 3-2 at half time. Devon again scored after 5 mins in 2nd half. West Coast pulled another back. As Devon began to dominate 2 more followed and they got one back but it was too late to recover. Scorers were Daniel O'Flaherty 3, Evan Shiels 2 & Liam Tobin 1.  Manager Nigel Diskin & Asst Barry O'Connell.

U12A, U12B vs U11A, U11B

Our U12's and U11's played two every entertaining games of football against each other on Sunday morning.

U11 Development League

Drom hosted another round of games in the GFA U11 Development league. Salthill Devon had 3 squads with Galway Bohemians, Knocknacarra FC, Corrib Rangers and Barna (2 squads). Some great footbal on show in this U11 Development League

Boys U10 Blitz

Salthill Devon U10’s welcomed Barna to Drom on Saturday afternoon. Over 35 kids from each club participated with 5 teams from each club playing 7v7 and 6v6. It was a great afternoon of football with all the boys showing great skill and determination. Thanks to Barna for traveling over and for all the parents lending their support to the boys

Girls U10 Blitz

Devon’s U10s girls travelled to Cappagh on Sunday morning to participate in a blitz hosted by Knocknacarra FC.  The U10’s played three games, against Knocknacarra and Barna with some great results of 2 wins and 1 draw. Well done to all the girls and management team.

U14 Girls Irish Cup

U14 Girls proceed to the 4th Round of the Irish cup.

The long trip to Abbeycartron in Longford was worth it for the Devon Girls as they emerged victorious. It was the first time Devon played Ardagh in the Girls WFAI cup. The game opened briskly with Alex Shepard getting a chance after 2 mins but unable to convert. The first 20 mins of the game swung both ways with Ardagh certainly having chances to score but keeper Caoimhe O’Sullivan and centre backs Anna Costello with Sister Maria Costello keeping Ardagh at bay. The deadlock for the game was broken 5 mins before half time as Alex Shepard was taken down in the box and stepped up to Cooley slot our first goal away. HT 1-0 to Devon.

Seemingly the Devonettes have become a team that impresses more in the second half this season and within two mins of starting Emily Fitzgerald after 3 attempts slots a second for Devon. This was a game changer as Salthill dominated the second half completely. The wingers Saoirse Burke and Kate Thompson were relentless with crosses and running the backline ragged. Ivana Lally (this reporters Girls of the match) created the third with a cross for Alex Shepard’s head to bag the third goal. Continued pressure from Aoibhin McDonnel in midfield, the two winger backs of Aine Deane and Ailish McDonnell finally brought a fourth.

With a through ball for speedy Emily Fitzgerald. Caoimhe Nic Aodha slooted into to left back and looked like a natural tackling and delivering great passes up the wing, Mary Rooney went about her business closing down high up the pitch and played a good second half. Grace Mason made her debut for Devon up front. And had a good chance . Manager Mark Hengerer praised the girl’s performance at full time. The Christmas songs rang out on the bus home.

U15A  SFAI Sketchers Cup 

Salthill Devon 5 vs 2 Maree/Oranmore

Salthill Devon U15s advanced to the next round of the SFAI Sketchers Cup in emphatic style with five different scorers but the score line doesn’t tell the full story.

Salthill Devon came into this game without keeper Andrew Sherlock who performed heroics when the same sides met two weeks ago and Louis Corr is still recovering from his recent surgery. 

Devon started the game on the front foot and took an early lead when a quick attacking move started by Matthew Thompson who released the burgeoning talent of Dylan Trainor Canavan down the right flank and his expert assist set up Shane Befula, team captain, who finished the ball with his first touch which caught both the keeper and advancing defenders unaware. 1-0 after two minutes. 

Salthill Devon retreated from the re-start and Oranmore/Maree must be given credit for a barrage of attacking which yielded an equaliser within ten minutes. Devon needed to be back into the game. Fergus Hanney and Rory O’Brien at centre back took a foot hold which in turn allowed the midfield trio of Matthew Thompson, Joe Murray and Shane Befula get higher up the pitch and this gave the necessary to gain a foot hold in the game. Both teams huffed and puffed but dynamic play by both Devon full backs, Maccon Kenny and Harry Browne allowed their team mates ahead, Arron Dossen and Dylan Trainor Canavan get in behind the opposition rear guard. Just before the half time break, a free kick almost on the touch line and all of 35 yards from goal didn’t stop Matthew Thompson put the ball in the top corner giving the opposition keeper no chance. #whatagoal. 2-1 up at the break. 

Devon introduced Peter Tobin and Ben O’Malley for Matthew Thompson and Sean Faherty who both had performed well but a difference from this season to the last is the strength in depth of this side, both players added seamlessly to the side.

Devon made it 3-1 shortly afterwards with good play from Tobin, Befula and Dossen finishing to the net. Ben O’Malley almost made it 4-1 but a mistimed jump allowed Oranmore to clear the danger. Devon were well on top at this stage and introduced Calum Loomes, Ryan Kavanagh, James Busari and Uyi Uyiosa. Loomes, Tobin and Befula produced some magical one touch football in midfield combined with the aggressive and skilful wing play by Jmaes Busari down the left and dynamic qualities of Uyiosa down the right, one felt the fourth goal was coming. In fairness to Oranmore, they kept plugging away and scored a long range free kick themselves to reduce the deficit to 2-3.

Oranmore gained confidence and drove on for the equaliser and almost got there were it not for a fingertip save by Connal Doran between the sticks. Devon counter attacked and Peter Tobin finished excellently to make it 4-1 and James Busari solo run made it 5.

A great day for this Devon side who were knocked out by Oranmore at this venue at this stage one year ago.

The referee played a good game which was played in a sporting manner by both sides who always produce a competitive game. Great win from the  U15As
