The U12 girls top of the table clash was dominated by a great act of “SportsWomenship” . Two even teams competed the first 25mins with chances either side. A Mervue player went down after being hit in the stomach by the ball, Salthill were breaking and rightly so the Ref halted play to deal with the player. The game was restarted with the Ref directing a Mervue player to pass the ball back to the Salthill keeper. Mervue scored directly from the kick. HT whistle followed shortly. Mervue subsequently allowed Salthill to scored from the Kick off with Emily Fitzgerald allowed to dribble unopposed and score.
With the game evenly balanced Salthill edged the second half with a great goal by Martha Kyne. However this game will only be remembered for the fair play demonstrated by the manager Ann Carr and Mervue coaching staff. The unusual goal can be viewed on Mervue Facebook.
