Salthill Devon News – 29.09.2017

Salthill Devon’s Junior Premier Division team recorded a badly needed victory over fellow strugglers Renmore on a 3-2 scoreline last Sunday morning. First half goals from Rory Brennan and Martin Coady followed by a penalty from Keith Shaughnessy on the hour make gave the seasiders a commanding lead, however, they conceded 2 late goals and almost an equaliser as they clung on for their first points of the season. Marek Krynicki and Posh Fadden’s side will hope that this victory will give their side confidence ahead of a difficult assignment at home to high flying West Utd in Drom this evening (Friday).

The Youths Premier division team lost out to Galway Hibs 4-2 in a tight encounter while the Division 1 team went down away to Oughterard.

Nigel Diskin’s U16 Championship team continued their strong start to the campaign with a 4-0 success over Colga with goals from Evan Shiels (2), Adam O Connell and Gavin Summerville.

The U15 Division 2 team had a fine 3-2 win over Cregmore/Claregalway in Drom on Saturday while Donnacha Martyn’s U14s overcame Moyne Villa 4-2 in Headford to advance to the 2nd round of the Connacht Cup. Shane O Grady’s U14 Bs were unlucky to go down 3-2 in a thrilling match away to Colga in Clarinbridge but have the consolation of the Connacht Shield to look forward to instead.

Mike Murray and Greg Quinn’s U13 Premier team continued their strong start to the season and after recording a 7-2 Irish Cup win over Bearna Na Forbacha in midweek followed it up with a 2-0 league victory away to Colga.

John Nolan and Tom Finneran’s U12 As went down at home to Athenry in the Connacht Cup while the U12 Cs were defeated by Mervue also in Connacht Cup with the U12 Bs advancing to the first round proper after a fantastic 3-2 win away to Colga.

The U14 Girls advanced to the 2nd round of the Irish Cup after an emphatic victory over Maree/Oranmore with goals from Saoirse Burke, Alex Sheppard, Aoibhin Costello, Ivana Lally and Emily Fitzgerald.

Shane Fitzgerald’s U12s qualified for the FAI Regional blitz in Longford when they overcame a fancied Colga 2-0 through a brace of goals from Emily Fitzgerald with goalkeeper Elle Browne having a fine game for the Seagullettes.
